This is an internet marketing related website owned and created by a guy by the name of Michael Wong. Michael Wong is actually a well-respected search engine optimizer, He has his site optimized for internal linking. Whe we look at Michael's website, we see that in the right hand column he links to all other pages within his website, using the main keywords he is trying to internally optimize each webpage for. For example, he has optimized many of his internal pages for various Internet Marketing names:
Onpage Analysis When we look
at one of these pages and we click on the link that says
"Marlon Sanders", it takes us to the webpage
that Michael has optimized for the keyword "Marlon
Sanders". Michael is doing many of the onpage ranking techniques that I've previously taught you. Michael has placed "Marlon Sanders" in the page title.
He also placed "Marlon Sanders" within <h1> header tags and placed it in the top left hand section of his page. To look at the source code of the web page, click the "edit" and then "view source" option on the top of your web browser.
The word "Marlon Sanders" is bolded and he mentions the word throughout the page. I mentioned before, onpage ranking factors are things you should do. You can optimize your internal links. Do not forget that is not the main thing to get you top page rank and to the top of the search engines for your keyword. It's good external links, good external links, and more good external links, that will get you top page rank. Let's look at Michael's web page again. Let's plug (http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/directory/marlon-sanders.html) into SEO Elite to give you a quick visual of the anchor text being used to link to this web page. When we sort
the "anchor text" column in ascending order, we
can see all of the links pointing
Now we scroll over the left hand column and sort this in ascending order. Many of the pages linking to his Marlon Sanders web page are actually pages from within his own website! The more "votes" or links, you can get pointing to your web page, generally, the higher page rank you will get for your keyword. Some SEO experts believe that each link in your site also counts as a vote. A vote from your link in your website can not be a bad thing but it will never be equal to a good external link.

The keywords "Marlon" and "Sanders" appear 16 times in the anchor text linking to Michael's Marlon Sanders web page. Is Michael's webpage ranked towards the top of Google for this keyphrase? We can have a look. We go to Google and enter: Marlon Sanders. The #1 ranked site is actually Marlon Sander's main website. The #2 ranked website is Michael's review site!
What got Michael's page to the top? Several things. Did internal linking from within his website. This is something you could do on your web pages but not everyone believes it is important to do this! Michael is a professional search engine optimizer. If your going to do internal linking he's a good person to model your internal linking after. Lets look at another web site. We're going to be looking
at: This is your typical, "pretty" looking website that is not well optimized and does not have good internal linking. What are the things they're doing wrong?
They don"t have internal linking strategy, their navigational links aren't text! They're just graphics.This can have a purpose if their alt image tages have their key word in them. Are they're wasting "votes"? We can not say that for sure. They could be casting votes for their internal web pages in their alt image tags.
They will have to use alt image tags if this website wants to get some page ranked for any of the keywords in their navigational images at the top of their website:
Let's use SEO Elite to see if they're ranked anywhere in the top 1,000 websites on any of the major search engines.
Now click on the report tab to view the results.
They are not found in the top 100 search results for that term. If you check their page rank you will see that they have a page rank of 3. What does this mean? Well even though they did not do very good page optimization they did get page rank of 3. Most likely they did get links containing thier main keywords in the anchor text, from other websites. Those links may found in the content pages of sites linking to them. That would give them some page rank even though their page is not well optimized. Remember: You must get links containing your main keywords in the anchor text, from other websites. For top page rank nothing is as important as your external links.
